Do you have a personal values list? What concepts are important to you that dig at your core? Values are things we care about and believe in. Values are something we strive to live by. Is a healthy lifestyle something that you strive for? Something you believe in or care about? Is it important to you? When you are on a weight loss journey, this is something that is worthwhile knowing. It can mean the difference in maintaining that lifestyle once you reach your goal weight.
What Is A Healthy Lifestyle?
According to the World Health Organization, “health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” A healthy lifestyle consists of healthy habits that keep us healthy on a physical and emotional level. They work toward maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and reducing your chance of disease or illness. It can even improve your health from illnesses or disease you already have. These habits would include, to name a few, healthy eating, regular exercise, good quality sleep, and activities that create a positive mindset. if you’d like to learn more about some healthy habits worth having you might like to check out my article on that here. If these habits are worthy to you, would you believe they are something you value in your life?
Is Health On Your Personal Values List?
What values do you hold in high esteem? What’s on your list of personal values? When you go through life, what values do you strive to maintain to be the kind of person you want to be? It is always good to have values. Some examples of values that people may have are honesty, integrity, commitment, efficiency, creativity…and yes, health.
Valuing your health is all-important when you are losing weight. It is not only something that you strive for, to reach your goal weight. It is also critical to the idea of maintaining it afterward! You have probably heard the saying before “it’s not just a diet–it’s a lifestyle”. That is where value comes into play. We value all the things that our healthy lifestyle provides for us. Eating healthy nutritious foods that benefit our body and keeps us satisfied. Having regular exercise in our life that keep our bodies strong, keeps us active, and increases our confidence. Good quality sleep allows us to perform at our best by replenishing our body’s energy and increasing our focus and clarity for the activities we have ahead. A positive mindset that increases our confidence and self-esteem, reduces our stress levels and gives us a better understanding of how we think and react to everyday situations. Even how we can change our way of thinking for the better!
Having Values Is Like An Anchor
An anchor is something, or in this case, belief, that strives for us to move forward. When we are struggling with weight loss, having an anchor can remind us of why we are working so hard for something. An anchor is something that has deep meaning for us, or triggers us to look ahead to our goal. To give us encouragement to keep striving because what we are working toward is worth it. Values are like anchors. When we are having a tough time and we think of our value of “health” or a “healthy lifestyle”, we are reminded of how important that value is. We want to represent that value. Hold that value as true, so we keep working toward it.
Your Health is Valuable
When you think about it, your health is not only valuable to you as a person but to those around you. Health is a big part of people’s “why” when it comes to weight loss. When people are asked why they want to lose weight, “to get healthier” is a common answer. They value their health. For themselves and those around them. When we live by healthy habits, we are living that value we have in our health. Life will be forever changed for the better, because of it.
