Self-care never goes out of season. For all that we do for our family, our friends, community and workplace, there is room left over for some special care for ourselves. Summer is no different. It’s just a different season. Some forms of self-indulgence only seem appropriate for the summer. Let’s list 10 of our favorite forms of self-care in the summer.
10 Self-Care Indulgences For Summer
Create An Outdoor Sanctuary
After a hard day at work, a morning spot for coffee, a lazy afternoon of reading, a place for a dinner BBQ, or even an evening under patio lights, an outdoor sanctuary gets you away from it all!
Go To A Drive-In
There are still a few around. Relive some memories with your significant other or start some new memories with your family. Some food from the concessions, cuddling up and enjoying a movie from your car and on the big screen! A summer memory in the making!
Get Summer Produce
Whether you visit a farmer’s market or pick your own, there is nothing quite like fresh produce! It’s very healthy and tastes especially delicious in season. Take it a step further and make some preserves or freeze some that can be enjoyed throughout the year. A fun family activity too!
Go To An Outdoor Concert
Have fun listening to some great music through the day or under the evening stars. Bring some picnic food and make it a day event you won’t soon forget!

Go Camping
So many self-care items all packed in one with this activity! Go hiking. Paddle a canoe or kayak while seeing and listening to the awesome sounds of nature! Have a bonfire-roast some weinies. Make some smores. You can meet people you’ll keep up with for a lifetime. The ideas are endless there!
Go On a Road Trip
It doesn’t have to be far off. A day trip can be lots of fun! How about visiting a small country town? Park the car and walk about. Learn some history, do some shopping, visit some attractions and get exercise. The townspeople can give you some great tips on what’s worth visiting. Plan a day and enjoy some new territory!
Summer’s Flowery Splendour
Summer is the time for growing lots of things. Flowers add so much to our landscape. Tending to flower gardens can be very therapeutic for some people. You can bask in the splendour in your own garden or bring some indoors and make a beautiful arrangement. The smell and sight will add to any room in your home or apartment! Don’t have your own garden? How about visiting an arboretum or horticultural attraction? The sights and sounds are spectacular. Don’t forget your camera!
Lazy Summer Reading
Ever notice how bookstores always seem to have a display of books just for summer reading? Something light. How about historical or autobiographical? One book that I have recently written a review on that I would highly recommend is “Girl, Stop Apologizing” by Rachel Hollis. You can read up on it here. There never seems to be a shortage of good reading material out there for just about anyone’s taste. Join the legion fo summer reading fans. Remember….summer time and the living is easy…
Attend a Sporting Event
Whether it’s professional sports or your town’s little league, sporting events are a chance to get together with friends and relatives and cheer on your favourite team. May even be an active participant!
Check An Item Off Your Bucket List
We all have these don’t we? They might even be more suitable to do in the summer. From white water rafting to renting an RV and going on your dream summer vacation, the sky is the limit. Check off that box this summer!
The Possibilities Are Endless
It’s a big world out there with lots of endless possibilities for self-care in the summer! Recharging your batteries is important, both for yourself and for those around you. The opportunities are yours for the taking! Go after it and make this the best summer ever!
